Last weekend we went apple picking with some friends at Rock Hill Orchard in Maryland. This quaint little farm sits picturesquely off of Ridge Rd. among lovely fields and rolling hills.
Zander lit up with pride every time he successfully yanked an apple off a branch. Thankfully there was plenty of “low lying fruit” for him and his little friend to choose from. As much as he loved picking apples, I think he loved running through the lanes, and playing in the grass even more.
After filling a couple bags full of Empire apples, we jumped on a tractor pulled wagon for a hay ride around the farm. We rode through more orchard, a pumpkin patch, and some raspberry fields before hopping off at their little country store.
After purchasing some jam, and drooling over their freshly bakes pies, we jumped back on the wagon and headed back to our cars. Zander dropped a Match Box car off the side of the wagon on the way back, so we had a fun adventure trying to find a green toy in the middle of a green field on our way out (insert haystack pun here). Mission find tiny car was successfully accomplished, which made for a very happy kid.
All in all, it was a great day and a great way to wrap up September and a lovely Summer, and welcome in Fall. Now my next challenge is to figure out what to do with all of these apples. Any suggestions??
